Cannabis Yoga: Bend & Blaze
Bend & Blaze | July 14th, 2018 | Beverly Hills, CA
Last Saturday I had the pleasure of being a part of an amazing workshop called Bend + Blaze, a private cannabis-infused yoga class led by the one and only Eliza Maroney of Fire Path Yoga. Along with her husband Luke Maroney, Eliza is the Co-Founder of a high-end CBD subscription box service called Lucky Box Club. You could say that she infused her two passions into one terrific experience which she shares with those who are open to new experiences with new people – and I’m thankful to have been among the press and other attendees invited.
The doors opened on a beautiful estate at the top of Beverly Hills. I still can’t get over the views, which were absolutely gorgeous and stretched for miles to the ocean. We were greeted with fresh fruit, snacks, Root Origins CBD Water and Matchabar Matcha Energy Drinks to enjoy with each other before the class. As gifts, we were given pretty silicone-covered glass water bottles from Ban.do. Next to a crystal-clear blue pool were eco- friendly jute plant purple mats, supplied by Set Intentions, that were perfectly arranged on a patch of grass. Each one had its own Lucky Box Club package neatly placed on top. Eliza invited us all to pick a mat and take a seat.
We started by unboxing each of our fully packed cartons. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Pure Vape battery, a Pure Vape Lemon Haze cartridge, a Pure Vape lanyard with vape holder, a pack of Henry’s original CBD pre-rolls, Citizen CBD tincture, Papa & Barkley’s 1:1 THC:CBD tincture, a delicious potent pre-roll from Sugar Leaf, and even a pack of Lucky Box Club matches and stickers. After we ingested a bit of cannabis in whatever form we chose, Eliza invited us to lie down on our mats to begin our practice.
The hour-long session was the most relaxing and rejuvenating yoga class I’ve ever been a part of. Eliza guided us through different vinyasa flows with the relaxing songs she had chosen. Throughout the practice, Eliza reminded us to bring our awareness to ourselves and our bodies. The combination of micro-dosing and meditation made it easier to just relax and breathe, as we all stretched deeply and with intention into each pose. We ended our practice in savasana, or corpse pose, as Eliza gifted us with an amazing sound bath with her beautiful singing bowls and her own voice.
We spent the last hour sitting in a circle, passing a joint started by Eliza and sharing our experience of the practice and how we were currently feeling. Most of us agreed it was a very welcoming environment and that sharing cannabis and yoga with other people was a unique experience. Some admitted that they would smoke before going to their own yoga classes but were nervous others might judge. Within the community Eliza has created, she brings awareness to de-stigmatizing cannabis and allowing it to be brought into different areas of wellness.
As the word continues to spread about these wonderful workshops that Eliza leads in California and beyond, she’s become known as “The Cannabis Yogi.” “The cannabis really helps me go a little bit deeper,” Eliza says. Check it out and see for yourself.
