Come on, let's be real. People have been pairing cannabis and intimacy for a long time. Ancient cultures use cannabis as an aphrodisiac, and even Queen Victoria was rumored to have used it for menstrual relief because apparently ruling an empire wasn't stressful enough. Yet despite its long history talking openly about cannabis and sex still feels like, let's face it, taboo. 00;01;13;14 - 00;01;41;08 Maria Why? Well, I don't know. Maybe because for decades we were told that cannabis would ruin our lives, while at the same time, society tried to convince us that intimacy was something to keep hush us. Unless, of course, it was being used to sell deodorant or fast food. Go figure. Or maybe. Maybe it's because we feel too uncomfortable admitting that our grandparents might have known a thing, or two about this before us. 00;01;41;10 - 00;02;11;03 Maria Hey. Joining me to break down the myths, the science and the magic behind cannabis and intimacy is Maureen Duve-Savage, known as Mo. Mo is a registered dietitian with nearly 30 years of experience. She brings a whole systems approach to wellness, integrating nutrition, plant medicine, and the eight pillars of holistic health through her work with more Canna Care. 00;02;11;05 - 00;02;46;27 Maria She helps people harness the power of cannabinoids found in food, yam, food and plants to achieve optimal mind body balance. So sit back, relax, and let's get smarter together with some of the brightest minds in the industry. Because knowledge is sexy. You know what else is sexy? 00;03;07;04 - 00;03;23;25 Intro Music Cannabis by 2020. Bank of America and Merrill Lynch estimate that will grow to $35 billion. And many experts believe it could eventually reach $200 billion each and every year. 00;03;23;28 - 00;03;48;26 Intro Music But like no other. I just want everyone to see what the sky blue sky. When I'm with you, I go higher. You lift me up. Now I can see so much fly like you're my rising. 00;03;48;28 - 00;03;55;25 Intro Music No, no, no. 00;03;55;27 - 00;04;00;28 Intro Music I'm a butterfly who has only begun to give me a while to get it. 00;04;00;28 - 00;04;03;28 Intro Music I had to live and cry, to appreciate life. 00;04;03;28 - 00;04;11;16 Intro Music Then what you give is way. When you hold me. When you hold me so close. Someone for the rain under your skin. 00;04;11;23 - 00;04;14;17 Intro Music When I leave I might. So that I can be sure. 00;04;14;19 - 00;04;21;08 Intro Music To remember my white skin I used to be satisfied. And we're. 00;04;21;08 - 00;04;46;19 Maria And we are ack. If you're just tuning in, will you pick the perfect time? Because we're about to kick off this Valentine's Day with a conversation focused on connection, wellness, and a touch of spice. A little naughty, but very nice. With Maureen Duve-Savage founder of MoreCannaCare. Mo? Please tell me I didn't butcher your last name and how to pronounce it? 00;04;46;21 - 00;04;47;27 Maureen Duve-Savage No problem. 00;04;48;00 - 00;04;51;05 Maria Welcome to Just Say Know. 00;04;51;08 - 00;04;52;10 Maureen Duve-Savage Yes. 00;04;52;13 - 00;04;55;04 Maria How do you. How do you pronounce your your name? It's so. 00;04;55;06 - 00;04;58;18 Maureen Duve-Savage Duve. Savage. Yes. It's Savage. Dube 00;04;58;18 - 00;04;59;10 Maria Savage. 00;04;59;12 - 00;05;04;23 Maureen Duve-Savage Yeah. You can spice it up. Savage. Dube Savage has a little French flair too. 00;05;04;23 - 00;05;09;24 Maria Okay, people do that with me. Calabriees. Calibrese. Hey, you know. 00;05;09;24 - 00;05;10;14 Maureen Duve-Savage Know. Yeah. 00;05;10;17 - 00;05;45;01 Maria All right. Well, welcome, welcome, welcome. You know, I I'm just so excited to have you here because you understand that true wellness is about more than just counting calories or eating more fruits and vegetables. You know, you take this whole body approach, one that includes, as well, harnessing the power of cannabis to bring balance and support to our overall all well-being. 00;05;45;04 - 00;05;49;22 Maria So welcome to Just say no and thank you. 00;05;49;23 - 00;05;52;10 Maureen Duve-Savage Thank you for having me diving in. 00;05;52;12 - 00;06;11;26 Maria Explain to us a little bit more about your company. It's your company, right? More kind of care. Yeah. And how you help people build better health habits by rethinking the way we nourish our bodies, our minds, and yes, even our relationships. 00;06;11;29 - 00;06;35;09 Maureen Duve-Savage So more kind of care is my, nutrition and cannabis practice. I guide, people when they come to me on their therapeutic dose for what they're looking for to manage, usually a symptom that they're trying to find an alternative to. That's usually how people find me is that they're tired of either still suffering or that something didn't work. 00;06;35;12 - 00;07;11;07 Maureen Duve-Savage And then with my background of nutrition and adding cannabis in, I look at whole person, whole body, whole foods. And with that, cannabis goes right in that, into that category. And I look at mind, body, spirit. We don't again, you know, like you were saying, just talk about calories that never sat with me. Well, as a dietitian for over 30 years of, being so strict, it is about meeting, the person at where they're at and to making small incremental changes that are good for them as a whole person. 00;07;11;07 - 00;07;30;18 Maureen Duve-Savage Because sometimes when you restrict, other things go out of balance. And that is, never gets that person to a real understanding of caring for themselves. As a whole. So, that's what I'm here to do, is to help people find that whole body balance. 00;07;30;21 - 00;08;05;15 Maria That is just so fantastic. So, you know, you, not only sometimes get out of balance if you start restricting something, but if you can't maintain, if you make these changes too quickly, I find they're not sustainable. And then that, that self defeatist, comes in that chatter and and that, that's not healthy either. So your skill set and by combining what you're combining is so eclectic, eclectic and unique. 00;08;05;17 - 00;08;12;15 Maria So if people would like to learn more about more tannic care or how they can get in touch with you, what where would they go? 00;08;12;18 - 00;08;35;03 Maureen Duve-Savage Yep. You can find me on my website at More Kind of Care. You can find a little bit more about me on my socials with the same or kind of care. But you can schedule an appointment. A free 15 minute call always helps you to kind of answer those quick questions that you might be having about, you know, who I am, what I am going to be working with. 00;08;35;06 - 00;08;51;16 Maureen Duve-Savage For you and most of the time it's really about questions about cannabis and how how that would, kind of play into what they're looking to work on. And so that free 15 minute helps people to be comfortable, and then we can work from there. 00;08;51;18 - 00;09;24;16 Maria And that's your website is more canna care.com. That's more. Yep. And a care more ACA and a car.com. We could find kind of care and mo on social media at more canna care. So that's amazing and I, I, I really love that you give a free initial 15 minute appointment. That's just wonderful. So we've heard you know, we've all I'm a foodie. 00;09;24;16 - 00;09;50;15 Maria I've been struggling with weight my entire life. We've all heard the phrase you are what you eat, but you speak a little bit about how what we and the plants that we consume could actually help us to feel more connected in our relationships, more in tune with our body, and even enhance, you know, intimacy. 00;09;50;18 - 00;10;13;00 Maureen Duve-Savage You know, when you're eating well, right? And eating, I don't need to tell many people what they should be eating. We know that if it doesn't have a label, it's probably pretty good. Meaning that it's a whole food, a whole fruit, a whole vegetable with minimal processing, meaning back, back to Dyson and slicing on our own a whole, food item. 00;10;13;02 - 00;10;50;26 Maureen Duve-Savage And when we eat well, our body digests well and eliminates and nourishes our body. And that translates to your mood and your mindset and your attitude and your energy level and all those things contribute to you feeling good about yourself in life, which then in turn will turn into your interests, which you know should be turning towards your relationships, particularly a partnership romantic relationship that when you feel good about yourself, then you're going to look to care for others and that will be your partner. 00;10;50;28 - 00;11;27;18 Maria The end did indeed. And, there's just not enough resources or emphasis put on the holistic approach that that you take. And just even self-love, even if you don't have a partner, that's fine too. But just loving ourselves more. So you've spent nearly 30 years as a dietician, you mentioned. What was that like. Moment when you realized, hey cannabis could be an essential part of my practice. 00;11;27;20 - 00;11;28;11 Maria 00;11;28;13 - 00;11;54;08 Maureen Duve-Savage Well as a dietitian of 30 years, you know all, all of my training has been in food and some in herbs, but not to the level of like an herbalist does. That in depth. And I do you know, integrate suggestions for herbs in our cooking and in our drinks, to enhance our, our wellness because they really do work. 00;11;54;11 - 00;12;20;00 Maureen Duve-Savage But through my years of nutrition, it really was, food focused instead of herb focus. And, I've always been a cannabis user recreationally, just usually for, you know, the giggles on weekends. And it wasn't until I realized that I had a raw garlic allergy, meaning that, I mean, I'm from new Jersey, a lot of Italian food, a lot of raw garlic, right? 00;12;20;00 - 00;12;23;24 Maureen Duve-Savage The staple. But as I aged, I feel like. 00;12;23;27 - 00;12;34;02 Maria Can I interrupt, get. I'm from new Jersey. I eat and cook a lot of Italian food, and I have this all over my kitchen that say Legalize Mario marinara, go ahead 00;12;34;05 - 00;12;48;02 Maureen Duve-Savage Marinara. I have that shirt. I have that shirt. It's from the tomato company. Yeah. So, I developed this raw garlic allergy, which was a shame, because that's that's the food that. 00;12;48;03 - 00;12;50;05 Maria Yeah, that's base. That's the base. 00;12;50;08 - 00;12;51;10 Maureen Duve-Savage That's the base. Right. 00;12;51;10 - 00;12;59;16 Maria And and and I didn't know people could be allergic to garlic because garlic is such an and healthy thing to eat. So that's terrible that you. 00;12;59;16 - 00;13;21;04 Maureen Duve-Savage Wouldn't be allergic to anything. The reality is right. It's it's it's how your body, respond to that. And there could be different reasons, but in the acidic form when we crush it. What I did find from my, looking around was that that acid formed, just kind of. I don't have an enzyme to break that down or lost that enzyme. 00;13;21;07 - 00;13;52;19 Maureen Duve-Savage And so I would become extremely distended to the point I felt like I was pregnant, to where I would have GI distress to, to, throwing up. And I looked and looked and looked all over the internet and no kind of Zofran, no kind of anti, you know, gas, none of it worked. And ironically, we were in Mexico, my husband and I, and we went to this beautiful restaurant, had this amazing meal and then half hour later it hit and I'm moaning and groaning. 00;13;52;19 - 00;14;21;26 Maureen Duve-Savage And to be honest with you, at that time, I said, honey, I didn't have anything with me and travel with it. But I wound up deciding to go out and see if I could find some, and I did, and the consumption of cannabis immediately settled my stomach and reduced my, distension. And it was that exact moment I've always used to for fun that I would say this was more than, you know, just for fun. 00;14;21;26 - 00;14;45;14 Maureen Duve-Savage This was medical and exploring that on the internet, and nobody was saying that they, had results or relief using. And there was inhaled cannabis, at that time. And so that's when I really connected, for me, at least, the medical component that I was using it, because I wasn't using it medically at the time. But that was my first indicator. 00;14;45;16 - 00;15;17;23 Maureen Duve-Savage Is this is medicine. This did something that no other medication that I tried, would help with, and it would be a 24 to 48 hour pain, and distension that would really I mean, it would knock me out. And so with that journey of understanding that, a Colorado Dietetic Association, talk highlighted by a dietitian in the area that was speaking about cannabis, and that intrigued me because they were offering CCU credits. 00;15;17;29 - 00;15;46;23 Maureen Duve-Savage So of course I went to it and I was hooked. Her name is Donna Shields here from, Boulder, and her and another dietitian wrote a book called the CBD Oil Miracle, or, that that was based in their understanding of the science as dietitians. And then I do believe that they they each treated their child with cannabis for their, you know, needs with excellent results that got them to write this book. 00;15;46;25 - 00;16;28;00 Maureen Duve-Savage You know, do the, look at the science, write the book. And then they wound up writing a full program, to educate dietitians, about that. This is our wheelhouse. This is an herb. And this should be part of, of the repertoire of tools in our toolbox that dietitians should be using. Just like we would say, to make a turmeric milk for inflammatory, you know, to infuse or inflammatory or add any other herbs into our recipes that cannabis absolutely can be one of those herbs for wellness or, you know, managing a symptom from a disease. 00;16;28;00 - 00;16;46;12 Maureen Duve-Savage So that's really where I got started. And then I just drank from the firehose, learn as much as I can, and got the certification and went from there and started, educating and, and, you know, touting everything that this, plant can do for us. 00;16;46;14 - 00;17;05;24 Maria It's phenomenal. I mean, how common are registered dietitians who have a master's in nutrition and career in nutrition and and holistic approach to how how common is it for them that are integrating cannabis into their practice? 00;17;05;26 - 00;17;35;17 Maureen Duve-Savage Absolutely. There are. I, Denver just hosted the Dietetic Association's conference last year, and it was great to see a handful of dietitians brought on, brought this, certification on probably from the work of Lara and Donna, who wrote that book and then got the credential to do this, holistic cannabis certification, as a medical, you know, see, use for us. 00;17;35;19 - 00;18;13;26 Maureen Duve-Savage But it isn't that com come common to do the certification in cannabis. But what is common is that dietitians are very much moving towards functional medicine practices, meaning whole body holistic looking at mind, body and spirit, not just the calories and restrictions and diets, but really looking at the impact of small behavioral changes and wider, tools, which usually includes plants as medicine and food as medicine instead of prescriptions and really even supplements. 00;18;13;28 - 00;18;14;14 Maria Yeah. You know. 00;18;14;14 - 00;18;22;03 Maureen Duve-Savage They have their place, of course, but really trying to get, nourishment from food and for mind body spirit concept. 00;18;22;03 - 00;18;52;16 Maria Which brings me right into my next question. And for listeners who are interested in that book, we will have a reference on our show page with the link. But this leads me right to you know, in in your work, get more candid care. I saw on your website that you emphasize the eight pillars of holistic health. Now, what are the eight pillars of holistic health and how do cannabinoids fit into this framework? 00;18;52;16 - 00;18;57;11 Maria And I promise everybody we're going to get back to in the back. Oh God. 00;18;57;16 - 00;19;21;24 Maureen Duve-Savage Well yeah. The pillars of health are it's a common, kind of statement in the health and wellness. Right. There's, anywhere from 3 to 4 to 12 I've seen. Right. And but but the kind of the staple, the five staples are usually, based in physical, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual. And that makes sense to me. 00;19;22;00 - 00;19;43;12 Maureen Duve-Savage And nutrition, is one of them. Where do you want to put that in physical. Or on its own. And as a dietitian and my pillars. Right. These are the pillars that I, work through, to kind of get you to where you want to be. Cannabis is in all of this because when you're talking about nutrition, there is nutritional value. 00;19;43;12 - 00;20;14;18 Maureen Duve-Savage In cannabis. We have, hemp seeds and hemp oil that has omega three and six is that are at a beautiful, cardiac beneficial ratio. So we should be using hemp seed oil now, hemp seed oil from the seed press. Even the hemp seeds are nutritious in regards to fiber and protein. And that really helps with, all the nutrients and digestion and all the things to keep our body going. 00;20;14;20 - 00;20;46;12 Maureen Duve-Savage So that's where cannabis, you know, plays a role in the nutrition part. Physical. Most people start and I start with, clients is in the physical part, but particularly with sleep. Sleep is the first pillar of, of wellness. So I believe that you should be working on that if you don't have that, you know, kind of at, at a close to a, you know, set pattern and real good rhythm, most things kind of fall off. 00;20;46;14 - 00;21;22;12 Maureen Duve-Savage So we start with sleep. And cannabis really is effective with helping you either get to sleep or stay asleep. And sometimes even cannabis can help during the day to either keep you active and engaged so that you can then rest at night. So, another pillar in is emotional. Cannabis has, had great benefit with people to reduce their anxiety, especially when they're using cannabis effectively with the right ratios and amounts. 00;21;22;14 - 00;21;49;04 Maureen Duve-Savage Depression also has been managed effectively by a lot of people by using, again, the right formulation and amount. So it it kind of and socially right who doesn't use cannabis. Sometimes for the giggles or to that social lubrication that often alcohol has been used for. Right. But at the right amount, it also can open you up socially. 00;21;49;06 - 00;22;17;02 Maureen Duve-Savage Some other other pillars are spiritual. There is a long, long history of spiritual use of cannabis and any psychedelics in connecting to, a higher self. It which is usually within you. Right. If you really kind of work with, the spiritual concept, it is about getting to know yourself and then self is the universe or the spirit or your God, right? 00;22;17;07 - 00;22;43;11 Maureen Duve-Savage It's in you. Others are environmental. The last one, you know, of all the pillars, cannabis is fantastic for environmental pillars, meaning that, the, the stocks of one of the varietals of cannabis, you know, was the sales, from our navy ships was the courts and and made teepees. It's cloth, it's food, it's fiber. 00;22;43;18 - 00;23;15;27 Maureen Duve-Savage So environmentally, it has a beautiful impact in remediating soil. Taking toxin out of soils and really does a great job of cleaning up, you know, work sites that have been that's been happening for years. So, cannabis is an all the pillars of health. If you, you know, use the full plant, meaning all the places that, cannabis can affect our, you know, our environment, and, you know, what's around you is what's in you. 00;23;15;27 - 00;23;27;07 Maureen Duve-Savage Right? So, not that's lacking. That environment is very impactful, whether it be people around you or the things around you. Right? Toxins, smells, scents, all that kind of stuff. 00;23;27;07 - 00;23;29;01 Maria So that's why it works. 00;23;29;01 - 00;23;29;26 Maureen Duve-Savage In the there. 00;23;29;28 - 00;23;53;09 Maria My goodness, there is so much to unpack on the eight pillars we only have, right now, I would say I would like to have you back. I can I would love to discuss with you. Just unpack each one of those pillars. There was so much you said, but it segways into the spiritual, which I was going to come up with next. 00;23;53;09 - 00;24;12;16 Maria But it's a it's a multifaceted plant. There is no other harvestable crop that has all of these different major components. And it it is so much more than the promise of the high. It is. It is not. Yeah. It's not just. 00;24;12;18 - 00;24;19;12 Maureen Duve-Savage It's healing our earth. It's healing our souls. It's healing our bodies. It's know it's healing everything. 00;24;19;16 - 00;24;22;23 Maria It's trying. It's trying. And you know. 00;24;22;24 - 00;24;24;13 Maureen Duve-Savage It will if you let it. 00;24;24;15 - 00;24;55;24 Maria Yeah, I love it. Right? It's recreational. It's adult recreational. It's there's a wellness lane. When you speak of the the CBD was when you talk of cannabis for for those of you it is very confusing the legal classifications. But hemp and marijuana, they're both cannabis. It's illegal classification. So when you're talking CBD and there's CBD from the hemp plant, there's THC from the marijuana, but those are only two cannabinoids. 00;24;55;28 - 00;25;17;20 Maria So I could have you back on a whole episode on the pillars and then on all the cannabinoids. But we have adult recreational, we have a wellness lane, we have medicinal and we have industrial hemp, which you hit on which soil remediation. I mean, they used it after Tara Noble. And what what we don't value our soil, we call it dirt. 00;25;17;26 - 00;25;24;07 Maria But what comes from our soil, our fruits or vegetables that what we put in our body. 00;25;24;12 - 00;25;25;27 Maureen Duve-Savage Cannabis Yes. 00;25;25;29 - 00;26;03;22 Maria There is the spirituality component and there's the sexuality component, which it's all connected. So, you know, cannabis has been used for centuries for these various applications spiritual, medicinal purposes, industrial, including enhancing intimacy. Yet it's still a topic, the intimacy topic that's not widely discussed. So, before we we explore how cannabis can support sexuality in this modern era of legalization, I wanted to provide a little historical context. 00;26;03;22 - 00;26;21;00 Maria So I did some research and, cannabis well over 3500 years ago, I guess it was referred to as and I love this, I, I'm going to name a new show after it. Bang! It was referred to as bang B A N G, so it had been used 00;26;21;00 - 00;26;21;26 Maureen Duve-Savage 00;26;21;29 - 00;27;16;06 Maria In India bang 3500 years ago in entire Vedic and Tantric practices from 3500 years ago. There's references describing it as one of the five sacred plants. Now, It was believed Thai and spiritual awareness enhanced intimacy and create deeper connections between partners. And then, in ancient Egypt, it was used as an aphrodisiac and a fertility aid. Medical text dating back as far as 2000 BCE to 400 C.E. we mentioned cannabis as a treatment for gynecological issues, potentially supporting sexual wellness, and some scholars believe Egyptian women may have used cannabis infused remedies for oral and fertility purposes. 00;27;16;08 - 00;27;46;01 Maria Now, in the 19th century Middle East., during the Ottoman Empire from 1299 to 1922, hashish consumption was widespread, with references all over it in poetry and literature linking it to pleasure and intimacy. By the 19th century European travelers, they recorded accounts. I guess that's when you could cross state lines and countries. Okay, we're gonna we're going to make cannabis great again, everybody. 00;27;46;01 - 00;28;16;04 Maria Yeah. Okay. So European travelers, they recorded accounts of hashish being used in love potions and aphrodisiac concoctions in the Middle East and North Africa. So my question to you are, what are some of the ways you go, people, Valentine's Friday, what are some of the ways cannabis is being used to support sexual wellness, both physically and emotionally, in today's modern era? 00;28;16;07 - 00;28;40;25 Maureen Duve-Savage Yeah. So, it's it has been used from the beginning of time and it's been used all through prohibition. Fortunately for those warriors that have kept, you know, these formulations and growing alive, but the way that you can use cannabis to support wellness is, again, using once you understand how to use it for yourself and what you're looking for, you can have a better sense of yourself. 00;28;40;25 - 00;29;11;01 Maureen Duve-Savage And that's always going to to allow for better connection with a partner. And the way that we do that is by, trialing and tracking, even before you try to use it for intimacy, to see how you respond, especially if you're a new user. But but the easiest way physically is to use a topical. So an infused massage oil, is the first layer to kind of try things out because. 00;29;11;05 - 00;29;21;15 Maria I understand it might. Hang on. I'm sorry, am I understanding this is something you should try alone at home? 00;29;21;17 - 00;29;27;17 Maureen Duve-Savage Well, yeah. I mean, that that is, you know, it's always about ourself first, right? And when. 00;29;27;17 - 00;29;30;21 Maria You're talking about trialing and making things. 00;29;30;23 - 00;29;56;22 Maureen Duve-Savage Spy. Yeah. And to see how you respond, especially if it's an ingestible where, that's why like an oil or a topical is, is an easy start physically because, most topicals don't go into the bloodstream unless of course, they're used in, you know, an intimate area where, you know, it may be absorbed, especially if it's, you know, often or at high concentrations. 00;29;56;24 - 00;30;24;29 Maureen Duve-Savage But that that concern is low. Most topicals and, you know, on the regular skin is helping to bring blood flow and muscle relaxation. But if you are kind of using it both physically and emotionally, so that would be a physical way, is that you use infused oils to enhance the connection. And, you know, touching with your partner when you, consume it. 00;30;24;29 - 00;30;55;13 Maureen Duve-Savage There could be an emotional, change. Right? And that's why I encourage trialing with, with a product before you are looking to use this intimately, making sure them if you are a new user, that you just don't use it the night of the day, right. That you wonder. Stand how you're going to respond in timing and effects. And the thing with the today's modern era is that we have cannabis in multiple forms. 00;30;55;13 - 00;31;26;18 Maureen Duve-Savage Now, you know, where it wasn't just flower and then maybe somebody made some hashish, right? We have full blown food production levels. So now we have it. And candy and gummies and oils and capsules and tablets and drinks and and edibles and and topicals of all nature. And so when you work, you know, with this, with cannabis, with this topic, you want to again be sure that you know exactly how that you are going to respond. 00;31;26;21 - 00;31;37;09 Maureen Duve-Savage So that you know when, when to kind of initiate the use of cannabis, before intimacy. So it's very helpful to know how you respond. 00;31;37;11 - 00;32;08;17 Maria Interesting. So to use cannabis for intimacy, always remember, guys, it has two parts to consider before trialing in the bedroom the emotional and the physical. Now, anyone who would want a more in-depth answer to this question about how to get started, Mo did a wonderful interview in our green B life.com green B Life Learning Center, and we have a blog. 00;32;08;19 - 00;32;36;28 Maria The best Weed for Sex and Intimacy for Valentine's Day was just published, so I no one wants to hear a more in-depth answer. And I want to thank you again. Mo, for participating in that interview. And, thank you for such a such a wonderful, insightful answer on this. Now, are there any particular when you talk about, you know, there's so many different forms and it's in food production. 00;32;37;00 - 00;32;51;01 Maria Are there any particular types of cannabis CBD and or THC, a combination thereof that or products that you like that you recommend for intimacy? 00;32;51;03 - 00;33;30;08 Maureen Duve-Savage Sure. The the key here is that where are you with your cannabis use, right. And anyone who is currently using cannabis, most likely knows how like what route they like to, use cannabis in. Meaning do they inhale it, or do they ingest it or is it topical? Right. But when we're talking about new users, it is, very, very good to start out with just a CBD product and then use a little bit of THC in it to know how you respond to the THC molecule, which is the one that kind of changes your perception a little bit. 00;33;30;08 - 00;34;01;18 Maureen Duve-Savage It doesn't always depending on your metabolism, your tolerance. You know, how your body responds to it. But we all are very different in how we respond to THC. So again, if you are a new user, a cannabis, guidance would suggest to you to use the lowest amount you can get, preferably 2.5mg of THC in that product, or even less if you can find it less prefer if that 2.5mg is in a gummy. 00;34;01;18 - 00;34;26;24 Maureen Duve-Savage We suggest to even take half of that again. If you are very new to using the THC molecule of the cannabis plant. But to help balance that out, and I'm seeing more and more of this on the recreational shelves where most people are getting their, cannabis is that they're that component of having that CBD in there is the second part to this. 00;34;26;24 - 00;35;05;27 Maureen Duve-Savage So the THC changes your perception and gives you that kind of euphoria in a positive way. If it's at the right dose, the CBD is the anti-inflammatory and it's the relaxer. So assuring that you have that CBD in that amount and not be just a gummy with all THC is another big factor. So that you can really relax with this and not overdo your THC, which may get you into an uncomfortable space that then intimacy is not, you know, you're not available. 00;35;05;29 - 00;35;17;01 Maureen Duve-Savage And again, that's why trialing these, products before that date would be preferred so that you can kind of time it and know how it works for you. 00;35;17;08 - 00;36;08;13 Maria What do you think of the only nine CBD products? I mean, you know, a nice full spectrum. They contain, you know, the legal limit, which is not really based on science. That's another episode, but the legal limit has up 2.3% THC. So trace amounts of THC so that you can get online, that is. But, you know, I found, for back pain that the online products the legal limit up to 0.3% THC is approximately 25 part CBD to one part THC approximately. 00;36;08;13 - 00;36;34;07 Maria But when I go to a dispensary, you could get like less CBD, 20 part CBD to one part THC, or you could get even less CBD ten parts. You know you have these ratios and you can have more. And that's all how you respond. You had your body had that reaction to garlic, the acid in garlic. It's it's how you respond and how the cannabinoids interact with one another. 00;36;34;07 - 00;36;54;07 Maria And finding that magic dose the right ratio. But what do you think? I mean, I've gotten relief from some of the online products. I do prefer the ones from the dispensaries. Do you think there's any, what do you think of, CBD with the legal. Yes. Oh, a full spectrum. Yeah. 00;36;54;09 - 00;37;16;09 Maureen Duve-Savage Depending on your state. Here's the challenge. Is that, just because it it's online doesn't mean that it's not a quality product. Right? There's a lot of legal products. And what you need to verify when you're purchasing any CBD online is to make sure that it has just like a food label nutrition label, we are looking for a label that tells us what's in that, that product. 00;37;16;09 - 00;37;44;21 Maureen Duve-Savage And that's called a certificate of analysis. And they can't usually, you know, put that on the label of the product. But a good company will have that easily accessible on that website and up to date per their batch to make sure that you know exactly what you are purchasing and that they have tested this, in, you know, the system that they're operating in now, that depends on your state. 00;37;44;21 - 00;38;13;01 Maureen Duve-Savage So the loophole that is out there right now with this, CBD products, with this 0.3% legal limit starts to get a very gray area because they do have mathematical magic with weight and, you know, proportions. And what has happened, kind of for good and not is that in the recreational side, there was a lot of high, high THC products. 00;38;13;03 - 00;38;49;15 Maureen Duve-Savage And now the market is realizing, and I do believe it's as, positive result of this gray area of the farm bill where CBD, can be manipulated in its serving size to still be legal, but have more THC than the, state regulated side is that we're finally seeing very high CBD products with a little bit of THC, more than the legal limit, more than the the point three, but just one, two three milligrams with a with a good amount of CBD. 00;38;49;15 - 00;39;26;15 Maureen Duve-Savage And that's usually, a product that most people can introduce themselves to cannabis. See how it works in their body? See how THC, responds. And so we love these products as long as they're made, you know, made safely and that they're tested so that they don't have byproducts from processing or growing that we will consume either inhaling if it's a flower or ingesting, as an edible or even topical because there's a lot of product, you know, chemicals that can be put into a topical that, you might want, not want to put on your body. 00;39;26;15 - 00;39;37;20 Maureen Duve-Savage So we are always looking for, CoA to test so that, you know, at least they, are being held to a testing if doesn't have a test. Yeah. No go. Right. 00;39;37;23 - 00;40;06;07 Maria That's right. And guys, the technical term is certificate of analysis CoA a lot of websites now are calling it lab test and lab results, which is fine as long as when you click on it it says certificate of analysis from a laboratory. A reputable laboratory. Now at green B life, we're a media company and we have online resources and guides and articles, and we have videos, we have the radio show. 00;40;06;11 - 00;40;49;28 Maria But we did introduce, a curated marketplace with vetted products. And there are all triple lab tests that they have the certificates of analysis. And we have a whole vetting system because, it's paradoxical, but these regulatory agencies that are supposed to be keeping us safe, they, they're their lack of movement on, these scheduling or rescheduling is, is causing safety issues because of these loopholes that you speak of and the paradoxes, if you go into a state illegal state dispensary, the state has testing requirements. 00;40;49;28 - 00;41;08;08 Maria So those products, as long as you're in a legal dispensary, they're pretty heavily tested. I mean, in California, it's it's it's so rigorous. But when you're online, you gotta do your homework or you've got to go to a trusted resource. And, at green Bay life, we. 00;41;08;08 - 00;41;09;11 Maureen Duve-Savage We. 00;41;09;14 - 00;41;31;27 Maria It's quality over quantity. We don't always have a lot of products, but the ones we have are tested. And, you want to make sure that they're tested not only for the potency has this amount of CBD in it and the amount of THC that the label says, but for the purity, because you don't want pesticides and and all of that stuff. 00;41;31;27 - 00;41;37;28 Maria So gosh, I just get so much smarter speaking to you. And I just love talking to you. 00;41;37;28 - 00;42;04;23 Maureen Duve-Savage And, and especially being careful purchasing from states that aren't legal and right, that everything in that state, because there are great operators in the states doing the right thing. But it is your kind of pause for caution, that if this is not a regulated state for recreational, then, a lot of these operators are working in this gray area, so you just have to weed them out a little bit more. 00;42;05;00 - 00;42;11;00 Maureen Duve-Savage And that's with like vetting or with working with a cannabis guide or coach. There's lots of them out there. 00;42;11;03 - 00;42;12;21 Maria That can help, right? 00;42;12;21 - 00;42;13;18 Maureen Duve-Savage Yeah. They can help you. 00;42;13;18 - 00;42;41;27 Maria Yeah. Having the resource of the guide in, the coach in. And that's what more canna care does. And, and speaking of the dispensary route, do you have any particular strains that you recommend for intimacy? Like our phones were ringing off the hook. This is the number one question. I was shocked, I, my guess, my number one question is if we have time and get to it, have anything for menopause. 00;42;42;02 - 00;42;44;03 Maria But everyone wants to know all. 00;42;44;03 - 00;42;45;12 Maureen Duve-Savage Of it, right? 00;42;45;15 - 00;42;49;04 Maria Yeah. Well, what do I what strains? Sativa right. 00;42;49;06 - 00;42;50;03 Maureen Duve-Savage Here. Yeah. 00;42;50;08 - 00;43;01;16 Maria And what do I do. What what are the best and are there different strains for female pleasure to enhance female pleasure versus male pleasure. So what what strains every. 00;43;01;21 - 00;43;31;21 Maureen Duve-Savage The reality is that when we talk about that, everybody wants to be told exactly where to go. Yeah, give me this. Tell me that and I'm going to get this. And the thing attrition, the thing with wellness. The thing with with emotional, social and intimacy is that it is about your own personal experience. So we all have in the system, but we all also have different genetics and different stressors that affect that endocannabanoid system, that make. 00;43;31;21 - 00;43;32;04 Maria Ohh 00;43;32;10 - 00;43;54;28 Maureen Duve-Savage Happy, that we don't need a whole lot more because our system is balance, or maybe because we're beating that system up from toxins and stressors that we need more. But the point here is that it is about what's right for you. So when we are going to look for a product, right, if you don't smoke, then we can't even be talking about flower, right? 00;43;55;00 - 00;44;14;18 Maureen Duve-Savage Because you don't want to inhale anything. And this is what the cannabis guy does, is we go through that algorithm with that person who may be thinking, I want to use this for intimacy. How should I go about this? And we ask all those questions. Are you a new user or an existing user? What have you used in the past? 00;44;14;19 - 00;44;53;16 Maureen Duve-Savage What has worked for you? And, you know, going through those questions because it always is personal. Brands want to, you know, pretend that there is strains for this or that, but it's really what are you looking for? Right. So let's just speak with products first. Again we go through that algorithm. And if you're not, you know, interested in inhaling which there are non carcinogenic dry or vaporizers that really does have value because it gives more immediacy to the effects which could be appropriate for the situation of the intimacy that you're looking to get. 00;44;53;22 - 00;45;16;01 Maureen Duve-Savage It could enhance, but with an ingestible which takes a lot more time pending your body, and that's why you want to trial it before, that could be what you're looking for. And then there's a whole slew of other questions, meaning, do you want it quick onset or do you want it longer? Do you know what type of product, what flavors do you like? 00;45;16;03 - 00;45;44;19 Maureen Duve-Savage You know, all those questions need to be asked, to find then the product that you're going to introduce to yourself to make yourself feel good, to then be wanting to connect with your partner. Right. And that's what cannabis does. But with flower and you're talking about strains or cultivars, right. The age old of city, the to hybrid to indica is really outdated because they were really rooted in where was it grown? 00;45;44;19 - 00;46;09;05 Maureen Duve-Savage Where did they come from? Shorter plants were in harder, hardy or colder regions, and that is more the indica styles. The city was growing big and bright and huge, and they give a lot of energy because they're usually grown in, well, you know, at least land races in very warm and, sunny climates. And that's why they really respond and they give a lot more energy. 00;46;09;08 - 00;46;36;11 Maureen Duve-Savage And so when you're looking for a strain for yourself, for intimacy, it's really out what you're looking for because some people need to be perked up. Right. So they would want to look for, for, strains that have, these other components in the plant called terpenes that we believe add to the effects. Now, we don't know that exactly, but we're relating that's very similar to food and other essential oils. 00;46;36;13 - 00;46;55;11 Maureen Duve-Savage Just like lavender is known to calm us. There is little lull in, in the cannabis plant that's similar to that, that have a calming effect. And just like when we love to smell orange or a lemon in a citrus or some fruit, and that wakes us up and that gives us energy that is in the cannabis plant. 00;46;55;11 - 00;47;25;20 Maureen Duve-Savage Also, there are similar, terpenes that are similar to other foods that are in other foods in plants. So it's nothing new to to cannabis. But, give us that, indication that that is the effect that it may give for you, but the key is for you. So whether you feel like I need energy for this partnership or do I need to relax, some people come in to hot, right? 00;47;25;20 - 00;47;52;13 Maureen Duve-Savage And they need to relax right from to too much chatter maybe in their head about themselves or the day. Right. That's inhibiting their connection. Right. So I always say, you know, it's such a marketing tool that this strain, you know, it's for will help you get in the mood. Well, that just depends on the person. So the best way to do that, if you're picking a strain is to smell the flower. 00;47;52;20 - 00;48;21;22 Maureen Duve-Savage If you're in a place that still allows deli style to smell the flower, your nose knows, and that will indicate that the likelihood is if you smell that and you're like, ooh, that smells good, it most likely will work with your body. And when I smell things that are either, you know, kind of gassy or real earthy and or pungent or skunky like that, that, that it doesn't agree to me. 00;48;21;22 - 00;48;46;25 Maureen Duve-Savage And so therefore that's not one that I choose. So there's a little bit of that. In regards to gender differences, unfortunately research has not really worked too much on, on a lot of the questions that we have. Right. But in gender differences, what we know from what is really coming from what people have purchased, and we have kind of a bit of the customer loyalty data that knows. 00;48;46;25 - 00;49;14;25 Maureen Duve-Savage Well, that was a female purchasing at what age. And so we know kind of female and male preferences based on purchases. We would love to know more about how our bodies are, as male or female process cannabis. And what we're finding is, you know, people that have faster metabolisms, we know this from other drugs. In our bodies or molecules. 00;49;14;25 - 00;49;43;13 Maureen Duve-Savage Right. Not calling cannabis a drug, but just anything, our our food, our molecules. Right. How our body responds to that and processes it. And that's the same for cannabis. So, you know, women may have, not much of a tolerance and men may need more is some indication. So that's why when we're talking about like specific products for, intimacy, it's, it's going through that algorithm and, and what are you comfortable with. 00;49;43;15 - 00;49;53;28 Maureen Duve-Savage What amount what route. And then try and track it to then be ready to use it in your, intimate space. 00;49;54;01 - 00;50;26;11 Maria You know, you can't undress me. The value of speaking to an expert with the certification that's on the heels of a medical background in terms of being a registered dietitian and a nutritionist, because, we've got to train the professionals. And kudos to you. Doctors have to want to learn about this. It's got to be scheduled at a minimum and rescheduled because, you know, guys don't fall into the marketing trap and don't be lazy. 00;50;26;11 - 00;50;56;16 Maria It's not as easy as just saying, hey, I want to strain to really spice things up tonight. And you walk in and Bud tenders are well-meaning and bud tenders, if you're listening, I've talked to some of the smartest and the best, but because they've talked to cannabis guides like like yourself, Moe. So I urge dispensaries and brands, send your bud tenders, send your reps to more kind of care, to organizations, to guides, to experts like Moe. 00;50;56;19 - 00;51;22;28 Maria Because this is complicated. This isn't like, you know, people just distill it down to, oh, you get high in your couch. Logged. It's so much more complicated. I mean, we could do episodes on we started with the endocannabinoid system. You talk about cannabinoids, you talk about turbines, you talk about entourage. In fact, this is this is complicated stuff. 00;51;22;28 - 00;51;46;07 Maria And, you know, you want to know what you need to find your magic dose. And it's it's just such a treasure that there's people as knowledgeable as you. And it's backed by science. Because I love that you're an ambassador for leaf for one one. We had a wonderful episode last week. If you guys didn't catch it with a registered nurse, Catherine Holden. 00;51;46;07 - 00;52;20;07 Maria She is the, founder of leaf for one one. They have a network of medical doctors and medical professionals, and I found mold through leaf for one one. And, you guys have medical doctors, you have Ob-Gyn from Harvard. I and and who who actually medically review papers that you write in your resources. So, again, if anyone wants to, you could get a 15 minute appointment, go to more kind of care.com. 00;52;20;10 - 00;52;56;23 Maria You can get an appointment there if you go to morecannacare.com/appointment. And on their social media they're at morecannacare. We are coming close to the close of the show. It and it is Valentine's Day. Now, if you want to try it, I looked up some of the, top four, cannabis Valentine themed dates, and, I saw that pairing chocolate with cannabis was a big one. 00;52;56;26 - 00;53;19;26 Maria I saw love potions, perfumes and essential oils as as, Mo explained, when the sensation you feel when you're smelling the scent, you know, there are cannabis delivery services, but nothing gives me more pleasure than going to a farmer's market, picking up an apple and smelling it. Well, the real OG Kush, please stand up with a real Macintosh. 00;53;19;26 - 00;53;56;06 Maria Apple, please stand up. You can't go by labels or names. We need a new naming convention. That's another episode. But go touch it. Feel it. See how you react. Speak to a guide. And if you're looking for fun things to do tonight, aside from potions, which you said you could start topically, and the aroma therapy, the aromatic, scents, the power that scents have, you could get a CBD infused massage oil cannabis scented candle to help set the mood in a very simple, subtle, relaxing way. 00;53;56;09 - 00;54;05;06 Maria It's not just roses. There's actually cannabis bouquets available in Los Angeles. We have some wonderful florists putting together. They send me. 00;54;05;06 - 00;54;06;06 Maureen Duve-Savage 00;54;06;08 - 00;54;06;26 Maria Right? 00;54;06;26 - 00;54;09;16 Maureen Duve-Savage Right. They sent me. Okay. 00;54;09;18 - 00;54;37;10 Maria Oh, okay. Well, I will, talk to my buddies about that. You could do a cannabis infused, activity for Valentine's Day. You can, you know, instead of dinner and a movie, try a cannabis friendly paint sesh or puzzle night infused cooking class. Go to a CBD spa night, you know, so whether you're in a couple with your self self-care, love. 00;54;37;12 - 00;55;05;25 Maria So all about microdosing. And you know, I'm closing out the show, I'd like to just, I'd like to I like to share fun facts. I'm sorry, guys, this is what I call a not so fun fact. So, Mo, you know, Valentine's Day is named after Saint Valentine. We kind of all know that while there, there's a couple of legends out there, surrounding his story. 00;55;05;28 - 00;55;38;12 Maria Mo, did you know the most commonly accepted one, the most commonly accepted origin story of poor Saint Valentine and Valentine's Day is that this poor guy, he was a priest in Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius the Second in the third century. According to the story, Claudius banned marriages for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers. 00;55;38;14 - 00;56;06;20 Maria Valentine, our dear saint. However, he defied the emperor's orders and he continued to marry couples in secret. When this was discovered, he was arrested and sentenced to death. La la la la la la la la la. Yep. And that goes out to the last prisoner project, trying to get everyone on, serving life sentences for marijuana. Oh, yeah. 00;56;06;20 - 00;56;38;19 Maria Right. So while in prison, Valentine is said to have healed, performed the miracle. He healed the jailer's blind daughter, and they became really close friends. Talk about intimacy. It's good they did not, however, commute his sentence. Just like all these wonderful stories about cannabis, it's still locked up before his execution on February 14th, Valentine sent her a note. 00;56;38;26 - 00;57;07;10 Maria Signing it from Your Valentine makes me want to cry. The phrase is still used in love letters today, so while the exact origins of the holiday are not substantiated, there's several floating around this connection to love and romance. It did grow over time, and Valentine's Day eventually became a celebration of love and affection. I didn't mean to bring the mood down. 00;57;07;10 - 00;57;42;19 Maria Everybody on this. Yeah, maybe you got a string for that. No no no. Coco Como. But the The Advocate in me, I can't help but point out the similarity between the injustices and human rights violations faced by Saint Valentine and the ongoing criminalization of marijuana. Valentine's defiance of the Emperor's unfair and unconscionable laws led to his wrongful imprisonment and eventual death. 00;57;42;21 - 00;58;20;26 Maria This strikes me as similar to how today's cannabis laws are rooted in outdated, harmful, and misguided policies. Just as Valentine's actions sought to create love and union, today, people are fighting to legalize cannabis, unlocking its potential to enhance wellness, intimacy and freedom. Both same old story and the criminalization of cannabis highlight the consequences and impact guys of harmful laws that stand in the way of love, freedom, and human connection. 00;58;20;29 - 00;58;53;16 Maria We must question who the laws are serving before just saying yes or N O please, just say yes or no based on knowledge. Just say KNOW with a K ans a W. K-N-O-W. That's all the time we have for today. But I hope you've enjoyed this special Valentine's Day edition of Just Say Knoo.
