How to Make the Perfect Weed-Infused Eggnog for the Holidays

Eggnog is a holiday classic, but have you ever thought about swapping the alcohol for a cannabis twist? A weed-infused eggnog recipe is sure to be a hit for festive gatherings or relaxing winter nights at home. You can customize the recipe using your favorite high-THC or CBD strain, depending on your preference.

What You’ll Need to Make Weed-Infused Eggnog

weed-infused eggnog ingredients

I’ve been making the homemade eggnog recipe by Tastes Better From Scratch for years. I adapted it to make a naturally sweetened cannabis eggnog by replacing the granulated sugar with infused honey. I also upped the vanilla extract for a touch more aromatic flavor.

Here’s everything you need to whip up a batch of this festive treat:

Egg yolks: These give eggnog its creamy, rich texture. (Save the egg whites to make a healthy breakfast the next day.)

Weed-infused honey: Honey adds natural sweetness. Infused with your favorite strain, it’s sure to become your favorite way to add a canna-boost to your food and drinks! (See below for alternatives.)

Heavy whipping cream: Heavy cream contributes to the luxurious consistency of eggnog. Coconut cream is a great dairy-free alternative.

Milk: You can use any milk including dairy milk, soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk.

Ground nutmeg and cinnamon: These spices give eggnog its warm, festive flavor, while also offering health benefits. Nutmeg is known for its potential to aid digestion and promote relaxation, while cinnamon is rich in antioxidants and may help support healthy blood sugar levels.

Salt: A touch of salt is key to enhancing and balancing sweetness.

Vanilla extract: Don’t skip the aromatic magic of a quality vanilla extract!  Vanilla not only enhances the flavor of eggnog but may also provide calming properties and contain antioxidants that support overall well-being. Vanilla bean paste is another option.

Infusion Alternatives

If you don’t want to make or use weed-infused honey, there are several ways to infuse cannabis into your nog.

  • Infused maple syrup. Follow the process for making weed-infused honey, but swap in maple syrup.
  • Cannabis-infused milk (canna milk). You can make canna milk by cleaning your grinder or steeping decarboxylated weed into milk or cream for this recipe. Keep in mind that the higher the fat content, the better your infusion will be as cannabinoids including THC and CBD bind to fat.
  • Your favorite THC or CBD tincture. This is a great option if you want to let guests control their dosage — or if you’d rather use your go-to cannabis drops in your drink.

If you’re using infused milk or tincture instead of the weed-infused honey in this recipe, be sure to add ½ cup of sugar, coconut sugar, or maple syrup to sweeten the eggnog.

Guide to Preparing Your Infused Eggnog

Making eggnog might seem intimidating, but you’ll be amazed at how simple it is! And once you taste it, I promise you’ll never go back to the store-bought stuff.

Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • ½ cup weed-infused honey
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2. In a saucepan, combine the heavy whipping cream, milk, nutmeg, and salt. Heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.

3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs. (If your saucepan doesn’t have a spout, transfer it to a liquid measuring cup first so you can control the stream and avoid splashing too much hot milk in, which will lead to scrambled eggs!)

4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Be careful not to let it boil!

5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Tips for Best Results

Here are some pro tips for making the best cannabis eggnog:

  • Dosage matters: Be mindful of how much cannabis is in your infusion. Start with a small serving if you’re new to edibles.
  • Choose your strain wisely: Opt for a THC strain for a euphoric buzz or a CBD strain for a mellow, relaxing experience.
  • Watch the stove: Milk-based mixtures can burn or boil over quickly, so keep a close eye.
  • Learn how to make infused honey: Check out our guide to making weed-infused honey.
  • Dress it up: You know what they say — we feast with our eyes first! Serve your eggnog in fancy glasses when hosting. Consider adding fragrant and beautiful garnishes like cinnamon sticks or star anise.

Tips for Enjoying Cannabis-Infused Eggnog Responsibly

While weed holiday drinks like this eggnog are booze-free, you should still take precautions to keep yourself, guests, and kids safe.

  • Don’t get behind the wheel: Never drive under the influence of cannabis. Plan for a designated driver or enjoy your eggnog at home.
  • Label your drinks: Make sure everyone knows this is infused eggnog to avoid mix-ups, especially around kids. Clearly indicate the serving size and the amount of cannabis per serving so guests can enjoy responsibly and make informed choices.
  • Store safely: Keep leftovers out of reach of children and pets.

Infused Eggnog Benefits & Effects

weed-infused eggnog

Cannabis-infused eggnog offers an elevated experience without the dreaded next-day headache and hangover symptoms often associated with alcohol, but the benefits of this drink don’t end there.

You’ll likely need fewer drinks to get a buzz when drinking THC-infused eggnog, or a relaxed feeling when drinking CBD-infused eggnog, so you’ll potentially consume fewer calories. That’s a win for your waistline — especially during the holidays when overindulgence comes all too easily.

When you make your own eggnog, you have full control over the ingredients. Whether it’s local honey instead of processed sugar or organic cannabis instead of booze, these simple swaps can go a long way when it comes to cutting back on the negative effects of sugar and alcohol on your health.

And don’t forget the warm and fuzzy sense of cheer that cannabis brings!

Common Weed-Infused Eggnog Questions

How much cannabis should I use in the eggnog?

The amount of cannabis you use per serving depends on your tolerance and the potency and effect of the strain. A general guideline is to start with around 5 mg of THC per serving if you’re new to edibles.

For CBD, consider starting with 10–25 mg per serving, depending on your desired effect. CBD typically does not produce intoxicating effects but may promote relaxation and a sense of calm, making it a great addition for those seeking a non-psychoactive option. Always adjust based on individual preferences and experience levels.

If you’re making infused honey or milk, calculate the THC or CBD content based on the strain and the amount you’ve infused. Always err on the side of caution—less is more when it comes to edibles!

How do I infuse cannabis into the eggnog?

You can infuse cannabis into eggnog by making it with infused honey, infused maple syrup, canna milk, or your favorite THC or CBC oil.

How long does it take to feel the effects of cannabis-infused eggnog?

Some people feel the effects of cannabis-infused drinks within 15-20 minutes, which is faster than the 30 minutes to 2 hours it can take to feel the effects of edibles. However, factors like your metabolism and whether you’ve eaten recently can slow things down.

Be patient—don’t rush to drink more infused eggnog if you don’t feel the effects right away.

Can I store cannabis-infused eggnog?

Yes, cannabis-infused eggnog can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. Before serving leftovers, give the eggnog a good stir to recombine any separated ingredients.

As with any cannabis product, keep it clearly labeled and stored out of reach of children and pets.

Are there any non-alcoholic options for cannabis-infused eggnog?

Absolutely! This recipe is already non-alcoholic, making it a great alternative to boozy eggnog. It’s perfect for adults who want to enjoy a festive treat without alcohol.

You can also whip up a batch without cannabis for kids and those who want to avoid it.
